The PFGS is a volunteer postgraduate forum which seeks to bring together researchers interested in how biosciences and society(s) intersect. Set up in 1998 to explore questions directly related to developments in genetics, it has now expanded to provide a common forum for the next generation of academic researchers from a spectrum of fields including - but not limited to: sociology, psychology, anthropology, science and technology studies, law, philosophy, art and science. Overall, our aim is to engage with each other in productive dialogue and build capacity in the study of life sciences and society. See how you can “Participate” or simply choose to “Join the PFGS” with student, alumni or affiliate memberships. The “What we do” page has information on the colloquia we hold every year. The most recent colloquium took place on the 11-12 December at Lancaster University on "Social and Biosciences – a critical collaboration?", see 2008 Colloquium for details. In 2008 Conor Dougals, University of York, is responsible for an ESRC Seminar Series which formed the bulk of our regional meetings - see the “Regional Meetings” page. More are planned for 2009. A new committee has been appointed for 2008-2009. For further details of the Committee Membership, see the "Contact us” page. You can also get in touch with the Committee here. The Committee meets every year at the annual colloquium, and also tries to meet separately a few times a year to discuss PFGS issues. The Committee contains both current PhD students and alumni, and aims to provide continuity for the PFGS from one year to the next. Minutes from the public meetings are available on the “Downloads” page. |
